Dublin Gaelic Merchants and Traders with Wicklow Roots

City & CountryIdentity and Society

The individual originates from his or her biological parents. Each parent originates from a particular family and society.

In the case of “The Gerald Keogh Identity Series” the male family that is the focus of attention is the “Keoghs of Ranelagh” here.

The society to which these Keoghs belonged was the Gaelic urban middle-class (old merchants, traders and professionals) of Dublin.

The roots of many of these native urban dwellers can be traced to the Gaelic tribes of rural Leinster.

A door has been opened—for the first time—into how these tribes became urbanised. This provides a more complete story of the “identity” of the Keoghs and the native middle-class of Dublin. The full article can be read here.
