The SINIP Project: Bridging Genealogical Ties Between Southeast Ireland & Newfoundland
Our Own Identity (OOI) is proud to introduce the MacEochaidh SINIP Project, or SINIP for short. SINIP is a unique genetic genealogical initiative aimed at uncovering and strengthening ancestral connections between families in Southeast Ireland—particularly within a 50 km (30-mile) radius of Waterford City—and those in Newfoundland, Canada. Rooted in the research published in The Ancestor (2024) by OOI‘s Director Raymond M. Keogh, the project focuses on the MacEochaidh sept (including the Kehoe, Keogh and Keough surname variants), tracing their historic migration and shared heritage across the Atlantic.
BLOODLINES ACROSS THE ATLANTIC
Your DNA could complete a story centuries in the making
Eligible individuals are now invited to express interest in participating in this ground-breaking DNA study, which will utilise Big Y-700 DNA analysis to establish lineage links between Ireland and Newfoundland.
Our Own Identity is offering to fund up to 10 DNA tests for selected participants who either represent clear genealogical lines (Invited Participants) or provide significant additional ancestral data (Auxiliary Participants). All participants consent to sharing their results within Family Tree DNA (FTDNA), the official testing provider for this project.
Testing is scheduled for 2025, with a comprehensive final report to be published upon completion. This initiative offers a rare opportunity for individuals with MacEochaidh heritage to contribute to a deeper, transatlantic understanding of their roots—helping to push the boundaries of genealogical research beyond traditional family tree methods.
