SINIP T&Cs: Are you Kehoe, Keogh, or Keough, and can trace your ancestors back to within a 50 km (30-mile) radius from Waterford city in Ireland?
If so, you may be eligible for a FREE DNA test. To apply, submit your information online to Our Own Identity (OOI) HERE.
This project was launched officially by OOI on 27th July 2025 in Newfoundland to coincide with Raymond Keogh’s presentation at the Conference of the Family History Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (FHSNL).
The extent of Our Own Identity’s involvement in the project [known as The Southeast Ireland and Newfoundland Identity Project (SINIP)] is confined to covering the costs of Big Y-DNA testing. This is as per OOI’s Terms and Conditions (below). OOI will also produce a final report in 2026.
SINIP Terms and Conditions
A total of ten (10) ‘Clients’ or ‘Invited Participants’ of MacEochaidh (Kehoe, Keogh, Keough or related surnames), who can clearly demonstrate their ancestral links to within a 50 km (30-mile) radius from Waterford city in Ireland are welcome to apply for free Big Y-DNA testing under SINIP. Invited Participants will include five (5) men from Ireland and five (5) from Newfoundland. Our Own identity is also open to considering a small number of additional Clients (‘Auxiliary Participants’) who provide significant additional ancestral data.
Each Client or Participant must be of male sex to be able to take the Big Y-DNA analysis. The potential Client confirms that he is acting as a free and responsible agent and that he is submitting test material on a voluntary basis to Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) who will carry out the testing.
Also, the Client must provide Our Own Identity (OOI) with sufficiently convincing material to demonstrate, clearly, the origin of his ancestral family within the stipulated 50 km (30-miles) of Waterford city in Ireland. For men who are descendants of Irishmen who migrated to Newfoundland, they must also indicate where their family resided after migrating from Ireland.
The Client is subject to the Terms of Service, Privacy Statement and All Policies of FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA) for all issues related to genetic testing HERE.
The Client is responsible for covering the costs of posting DNA samples to FamilyTreeDNA. All losses, damage, or any other issues involving transportation of samples is solely between the Client, the transport company—or companies—and FTDNA and is not the responsibility of OOI. The limit of OOI’s responsibility is to supply the Client with the ‘Coupon Code’ which enables him to request a testing kit from FTDNA free of charge. The Client must follow the instructions provided by FTDNA after receiving the testing kit. The Client will also inform OOI, by email, when the DNA sample was sent to FTDNA.
Issuance of the Coupon Code by Our Own Identity is subject to the Client consenting to enabling the ‘Matching feature’ of FTDNA, which provides the Client with genetic matches found in FTDNA’s database and to enable him to connect with his matches. If the Client does not agree to complying to the Matching feature of FTDNA, then an application should not be requested. If, for any reason, the client opts out of the Matching feature at any stage during the life of SINIP (July 2025 to 31st December 2026), then he agrees to reimburse OOI for the cost of the Big Y-DNA test, thus allowing OOI to pass on the benefits to another willing Client.
After reviewing a potential Client’s information, OOI will hold the person’s information until the selection process is complete (December 31st, 2025). At that stage, his information will be deleted from OOI’s records. If you don’t hear from us by this date, then the application is rejected. Selection is based on a process which is determined by OOI and whose decision is final. If you qualify and are interested in becoming a Client or Participant of the Southeast Ireland and Newfoundland Identity Project (SINIP), please complete the form on Our Own Identity’s website HERE.
